OJH Procedural Notes and Reminders

Attendance - Planned and Unplanned Absences

  • In the event your child is ill or will be arriving late to school, please be sure to call the Attendance Line at 297-5330. If the voicemail picks up, please leave a message - it is checked frequently.
  • If you need to pick up your child for an appointment during the school day, please call the Attendance Line at 297-5330 and indicate what time you need your child to leave the building for the appointment and where you would like your child to meet you. The Attendance Office will deliver a pass to your child to let him or her know what time s/he is to leave school and where to meet you. Thank you in advance for following these attendance procedures!
  • When your child would miss school for a planned vacation or trip, the principal's prior knowledge and approval is required. When trips are approved, it is the student's responsibility to approach teachers and learn what work will be due and what (if anything) will be required prior to departure. Without approval, work may not be accepted and zeros may be entered as grades. Please contact Mrs. Roeckner or Mr. Badenhop for more information if you have a trip planned during the school year.

Student Drop Off and Pick up

  • Attention all parents: In an effort to keep the entire school area a safe place for our students, we ask the following of our parents driving in the area before and after school: Please make every effort to avoid driving on Schantz between Dellwood and Spirea. If you are dropping off your students, please drop them off on Dellwood or Spirea, then continue driving on without turning on Schantz between the stadium and school. If you are picking your students up from school, please designate a meeting place that is on Spirea or Dellwood so that you will not have to drive on Schantz between the stadium and the school. For the sake of all of our students' safety, thank you very much for making these adjustments.

Parking

  • As most of you know, all of our numbered parking spaces around the building are reserved for staff members. Please be certain to refrain from parking in these spaces from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 pm each school day. Even spaces that appear to be available may be reserved for those staff members who travel within the district or are simply out of the building for a moment. Thank you very much for respecting the staff parking!
  • When you have an obligation in the building, you may park on the curbside of Schantz Avenue behind the OJH building where the school vans are parked (avoiding the space for accessibility, fire hydrants, and crosswalks). Before attending the meeting or event, see Mrs. Roeckner in the OJH Office for a temporary parking pass to put on your dash so you will not get a ticket.

Student-Forgotten Items

  • In the event your child forgets something, you are welcome to bring it into the OJH Office for him or her to pick up. It is the student's responsibility to retrieve the forgotten item from the office between classes, during lunch, or after school. It will not be delivered and they will not be notified. Please be sure to put the student's name on the item. The students have been told that if they think they have forgotten something or they have called a parent to bring something in, it is up to them to check the office for it. Thank you for working alongside us to support growing independence!

Make Up Work

  • If your child is out sick and is concerned about making up the work, the policy for collecting make-up work is as follows:
    • For students out three or more days sick, work can be collected for pick up by either contacting teachers via email or contacting Mrs. Roeckner in the OJH Office.
    • If your child is out less than three days, we ask that s/he check the teacher websites and/or Google Classroom to complete work when possible and then catch up with the rest when returning to school.
